Solar Power

India is a tropical country, with 300 clear sunny days in a year. The theoretical solar power reception is about 5 trillion MWh /year. This is far more than the total energy consumption of the country in a year. The daily average solar insolation over most parts of India varies from 4 to 7 kWh /m2. This emphasizes India’s immense scope of securing its energy needs through solar.

Solar Thermal (Concentrated Solar Power-CSP) Projects

Entegra is in advanced discussions to undertake CSP Projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat; the two states in India with the highest solar radiation characteristics. The initial capacities of the proposed projects are 10 MW in Rajasthan and 50 MW in Gujarat, of which the 10 MW would be a pilot project. In each state, the projects can be scaled up to 200 MW. The projects will be first-of-its-kind in the field of CSP based power generation in India.

Solar Photovoltaic Projects

Entegra is in the process of setting up a free field solar photovoltaic plant adjacent to its Desert Sun Project and looks to expand the solar PV project further. This SPV technology would be very helpful for meeting the requirements of off-grid RE power generation solutions.

Future Opportunities for CSP Projects

Gujarat Project (50MW)

For the 50 MW Gujarat Project, the solar field will be provided under a turnkey arrangement, with guarantees of performance, by Solare XXI, a European consortium. The technology to be used, will be same as our 10 MW CSP venture.

US CSP Power Development Initiative

Entegra is exploring with several US Companies, potential project development of CSP in South-West US. Presently, Entegra is in the process of completing preliminary development activities on sites with the goal of submitting proposals for CSP projects to various targeted US utilities.

Expected solicitations across South-West US in 2009/10 are expected to exceed 1,500 MWs.
